Hi there, I'm Kathy!

I'm the founder of Start With Your Story Educational Consulting. I've assisted more than a thousand students and parents navigate the college admission process. It's my absolute pleasure to do the same for your family!

Prior to starting my college consulting practice, I spent 20-plus years as a brand strategist. I had the privilege of telling stories for some of the world's most iconic brands and I've developed a framework that helps students define their stories.

I earned my College Counseling Certificate from UCLA and then later attended the Harvard Summer Institute on College Admission, so I'm well-versed in the college admissions process and how applications are reviewed. Being committed to helping others reach their full potential, I then went on to earn a Leadership Coaching Certificate from Northwestern University’s School of Education and Social Policy. As a trained leadership coach, I specialize in unlocking the potential in others and motivating them to be their best selves. I also have my undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the University of Notre Dame.  

I've visited more than 300 institutions around the globe. I’m constantly on the road, learning about colleges and universities firsthand, sharing that knowledge with parents and students. I work tirelessly helping students find and have the best chance of admission by raising their self-awareness and enabling them to connect with their strengths, values, and interests.

I have presented college admission seminars for high school counselors, parents and students. I’m a Professional Member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) and a member of the Higher Education Consultants Association.

I've walked in your shoes...

In addition to my professional credentials and years of education and training, I've walked in your shoes as a parent of two college students. I can empathize with you at every step of the process. I know what it's like to take the campus tours, build the college list, and have your child agonize over the wait and rejoice over the acceptances. And, I know the bittersweet feelings that are present on move-in day.

I've been on the journey twice and over the years, I have worked with so many parents who wanted what was best for their child as it relates to the college journey, but they just didn't have the right tools or support. And I LOVED working with these parents.
